Heartbeats by Jerry Cole

AUTHOR’S BLURB: From the Jerry Cole “Vault” comes “Heartbeats”. A light, fun, low angst M/M Romance.

What happens when an aspiring young actor crosses paths with a bad boy? Joel Holloway has been waiting for his big break to come along ever since he was eighteen. Now he’s twenty-three and he’s landed a few roles, but he still hasn’t hit the big leagues. When he gets a job for a small movie in his hometown, he goes out to celebrate with a few friends and they end up at a bar featuring live music.

After a mishap with incredibly handsome drummer Derrick Cross, Joel is invited to stay so he can get to know the scene a bit and explore the different opportunities the alternative group has to offer. Although Joel has to leave, Derrick extends his friendship and an invitation to hang out.

Joel becomes incredibly attracted to Derrick and finds himself confused by these new conflicting feelings. He’s a straight man who is attracted to another man. What would his friends think of his new attraction? Would he still be able to act without being judged? If he were to take a popular role in the near future, would his own sexuality be a problem for the producers? Surely there were many Hollywood actors who were gay, but he wasn’t gay…right?

Please Note: This book contains Adult Language & Steamy Adult Activities, it is intended for 18+ Adults Only. Novella, approx. 30,000 words in length. HEA (happy ever after ending). Does not end with a “cliffhanger”.

MY REVIEW: Instead of a typically angst-ridden main character, we finally enjoy someone who is exploring themselves with honesty and curiosity. And self-acceptance. This is very refreshing and gives a very relaxed and lighthearted read. I received a free advance reader copy of this book in exchange for an honest & unbiased review.
